Now is the Hour

John 12:31 ‘Now, the prince of this world is to be driven out’
John 13:1 ‘Jesus, knowing that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father…’

‘This world’
for John
was less a place
and more an attitude
of life, (non-life)
‘I will not serve!’:
‘I will not hand myself
nor hand my life,
my breath
to Him who fashioned me.’

The Princes meet at last
in mortal combat:
one prince who will not serve,
one Prince who will.

And Jesus, Chosen One,
the Sent,
will make the journey over
a blood-red sea
of suffering-
will pass, will cross from
our shared ‘No!’ to
now, the our-shared ‘Yes!’
For this is why he came,
to ‘do the will’ , his Father’s will,
‘the will of him who sent me’,-
to pass from ‘No!’ to ‘Abba! Father! Yes’
with his last breath.

And in that giving of Christ’s final breath, his self,
the prince of ‘this world’, prince of darkened soul
now lost his prey,-
for One had got away
and through that One
we all have got away,
if we will make that journey,
cross that sea of separation,
pass over from our ‘this world’ to
our Father.

It has been done.
One prince stands now defeated,
One Prince, the Lamb, has broken
all his power,
this hour,
on Calvary.
Come, follow Him.
